(Akiit.com) Hi-Five lead singer Tony Thompson was found dead yesterday (June 1) in his hometown of Waco, Texas.

Sources told Akiit.com that Thompson’s body was found outside of an apartment complex around 10:00 pm.

He allegedly died of drug overdose, but the cause of death has to be confirmed.

Thompson and Hi-Five hit #1 with 1990’s “I Like The Way (The Kissing Game),” which was produced by R&B/Hip-Hop producer Teddy Riley and taken from the group’s debut, Hi-Five.

The album also produced singles like “I Can’t Wait Another Minute” and “I Just Can’t Handle It.”

Hi-Five broke up around 1994 but reunited and released a new album The Return in 2006 on Thompson’s record label N’Depth.

Thompson also collaborated with Port Arthur, Texas rapper Bun-B on his 2006 single “Rock Ya Body,” which was produced by Play-N-Skillz.

Thompson, was working on new material for an upcoming album as well.

What a loss to fans of this crew of kids. they brought some magic to the scene when they came out with their hit album. I remember it like it was yesterday; I grew up listening to their music. I think its a damn shame that he overdosed. Why don’t cats know when to stop? why cant they detect their limits before its too late? once you go over that edge, its too late to grip your way back to the top of the cliff. I mourn the loss of Tony, he had a great voice. Thanks for your contribution to the music industry and influencing other artists with you and the guys making hits. You got the ultimate high now. your in Heaven. There is nothing more any one of us here on earth could ask for. Teach those cats some harmonies, and melody. Your fan, Doug.
