(Akiit.com) Have you ever marveled at the architecture of a well designed building from the outside and were so impressed that you just had to see what the inside looked like? Well many of us may not realize it, but our bodies in and of themselves are also well constructed and excellent architectural designs. They have the ability to astound in that same manner and ultimately perform miracles. While they may have been designed as such, if we do not give our bodies what they need to function on a daily basis, they will cease to perform for us and begin to look more like a rundown shack that everyone wants to avoid looking at and has lost interest in.

How may we prevent the latter from happening? Just the same as a beautiful, strong, well designed building requires a good support structure, so does our health. They can be defined as pillars because they are fundamental principles or practices that keep our health well supported.

Pillar #1 - Nutrition
By now most of us are witty enough to understand that we should be eating nutritious meals. Sad to say though the food that is being manufactured today is depleted of good nutrition and most are left nutritionally bankrupt. With proper nutrition you help build your body up to be in a position to ward off degenerative disease. There are foods that help the body and foods that do not belong in the body – point blank. So guard what is going into your body like a bulldog and be selective!

(Akiit.com) A beleaguered Knoxville, Tennessee police chief Sterling Owen, IV was emphatic in his stern remarks at a press conference in mid-May. There was absolutely no evidence Owen said that the murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom were racially motivated. The chief had to be forceful and direct in his admonition about the torture killing of the young white couple this past January. As the trial of five young blacks charged with the couple’s murder approaches, several white supremacist groups have threatened to stage a noisy protest in Knoxville against what they call the double standard in the case.

They scream that the national press routinely clamps a wall of silence on black on white murder cases because it fears inflaming racial tensions, and is scared stiff that it will be called racist for talking up black on white crimes. Yet when whites assault or murder blacks the press and civil rights leaders supposedly leap over each other to blare it out as headline news.

This is a false, self-serving, and cheap ploy to knock the press and civil rights leaders. However, the gruesome murders of Christian and Newsom does cast a troubling glare on an aspect of violent crime in America crime that isn’t much talked about beyond the rants of white extremists. And that’s that whites are far more likely to be the victims and blacks their assailants in interracial crimes than the other way around. Those crimes are seldom if ever labeled hate crimes. In the past five years according to FBI figures, on average there were about 1 million and a half to 2 million racial crossover crimes in the country.

(Akiit.com) The District of Columbia’s black population continues to decline, a trend that might soon change the capital’s longtime majority-black status.

In 2000, blacks made up 60 percent of Washington’s population. But by 2006 that figure was 55 percent, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

During that time, the number of non-Hispanic black residents in the city declined 6 percent to 322,000. Non-Hispanic white residents increased 14 percent to about 184,000. The number of Asians increased to 18,000 — a 20 percent gain.

The demographics shift means Washington likely will cease to be majority-black by 2020, said Robert E. Lang, director of the Metropolitan Institute at Virginia Tech.

(Akiit.com) Toledo, OHIO TODAY, my grandson graduates from high school. Erik is a black male, and the family is proud of him. College is an option for Erik, but he is particularly interested in the construction trades. Great, I told him the other day. “And when you become wealthy,” I said, “please remember your Nana Rose.”

Erik is an African-American male who has managed to defy the odds by not getting pulled into the plethora of negatives the world has to offer, and graduating from high school. Unlike many of his peers, Erik has some idea about his future. And although he didn’t arrive at this point on his own, few children do, really. Erik has strong family connections, a determined mother - my step-daughter - and father, and support from his grandparents and other relatives and friends as well.

Too few young black men have the elements necessary to get them to high school graduation and to keep them on the straight and narrow so they can obtain a post-high school education, and jobs. Lately, the media have rightly bombarded the public with details about the awful outlook for this segment of the nation’s population.
