DENZEL DEPLOYED TO IRAQ FOR NEXT FILM: Actor to produce and possibly star in movie based on soldier killed in Baghdad.

(Akiit.com) Denzel Washington has agreed to produce and possibly star in “Journal for Jordan,” a film based on the letters of a soldier killed in Baghdad during the Iraq war.

The project is based on a New York Times essay written by Dana Canedy, who described a 200-page journal written by her fiance, 1st Sgt. Charles Monroe King, for their son.

King, 48, was killed last October, one month before he was scheduled to finish his tour of duty. He never got to see his son, as his deployment came before the boy was born. King wrote the journal in hopes of passing on important lessons to his son and to prepare him for a life without his dad.

The film will be produced by Columbia Pictures-based production house Escape Artists, which acquired the rights to the essay. Crown has signed on to release a book based on the journal.
