Three Explanations For Leftist Apoplexy Over Donald Trump.

(Akiit.com) What follows is a lovely object lesson – one for the books, really – showcasing the blind, unreasoning hatred of a media talking head toward President Donald Trump. Earlier this week, ESPN’s Max Kellerman saw fit to publicly denigrate golf great Tiger Woods for his refusal to become enrolled in the political left’s campaign of calumny and invective aimed at Trump.

Apparently, Woods was asked on Sunday after the final round of The Northern Trust tournament about his relationship with Trump. As it happens, Woods and Trump have played golf together on more than a few occasions.

In response to the question on Sunday, Woods tactfully and diplomatically answered, “He’s the president of the United States. You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”

Sounds reasonable to me.

Well, that was far from good enough for Kellerman, who ripped Woods for his answer, claiming that it was a “thoughtless statement dressed up as a thoughtful statement.”

“And it either holds in contempt the intelligence of people who hear it or else it’s just a stupid thing to say,” Kellerman went on. “To say you must have respect for the office. … Are you [Woods] saying that the office, therefore, confers respect onto its present temporary occupant? No. Having respect for the office means principally, in my view, is the officeholder should have respect for the office.”

So, according to Kellerman’s own words, Trump doesn’t deserve the respect that’s been traditionally conferred to every other individual who has held that office. Further, Trump has somehow sullied the office itself by his actions, or perhaps merely his occupation thereof. Toward the end of his tirade, Kellerman said that Woods’ comments were “stupid,” and stopped just short of saying that anyone who doesn’t think that trashing Trump is appropriate is an idiot.

There was a time when I thought that no one could possibly sully the office of the president more than had Bill Clinton. While it’s true that several of our past presidents have exhibited questionable behavior in certain areas while in office, between what would become the Clintons’ legendary thuggery, numerous allegations of sexual impropriety and Monica Lewinsky’s stained dress, well, one wonders how anyone could top all that.

Then came Barack Obama, which is what really lends an ironic and almost baffling contrast when it comes to the left’s religious zeal for disparaging Donald Trump. Guys like Kellerman were among the legions of lefties who either denied, ignored, or shielded Obama’s nefarious actions at every turn as he headed up the most criminal administration in our history. While literally every charge the left has made against Trump has been fabricated, the high crimes, misdemeanors and even treasonable offenses committed by the Obama cabal are almost too numerous to count.

It was not Donald Trump who clandestinely gave billions of dollars in cash to Iran, catalyzed the Arab Spring, and funded, armed and trained ISIS. Trump did not covertly back extremist factions in Ukraine. Trump didn’t entertain Muslim Brotherhood operatives in the White House, nor give bubbleheaded celebrities the run of the White House Situation Room to feed his ego.

When someone with more than a few functioning brain cells hears a rant like Kellerman’s, the response is often along the lines of “Can you even hear what you’re saying?” Such a person wonders if those on the left are aware that on the topic of Donald Trump, they routinely engage in hurling veritable fusillades of rocks from their glass houses.

The fact of the matter is that they are not aware of it, and there are a few reasons for this. One is their proclivity for employing double standards. The rules don’t apply to them. They can be as amoral as they like, and they are not to be challenged. They, on the other hand, are allowed to level baseless charges against anyone they choose to target.

Then there’s the fact that as creatures who operate wholly upon an emotional basis, those on the left often let their emotions get the best of them. Attendant to this is the fact that very often, they simply don’tthink. These components were certainly operative with regard to the Kellerman-Woods incident.

Finally, the left’s hyperbole is born of a very real fear of Donald Trump, both as a president and what he represents vis-à-vis Americans’ increasing rejection of the Beltway machine. Those on the left are keenly aware that should this sentiment wind up giving rise to electoral trends, their days of political pre-eminence are most certainly numbered.
