(Akiit.com) Hearing loss will often occur gradually, and you may not notice it at first. Your colleagues and family member may recognize your hearing loss before you do.

Let’s have a look at some of the reasons for taking action when you have hearing loss is important:

The Signs Of Hearing Loss

  • It often sounds as though people are mumbling.
  • You need to ask people to repeat themselves more than normal.
  • It’s becoming more difficult to follow a conversation fully one-to-one when you are in noisy environments such as a cafe.
  • You find that you are unable to hear someone from another room.
  • You are having to turn the radio or tv up louder than normal or more than what other people need.

If you notice any of these symptoms it might be a good idea to book an appointment with an audiologist and a hearing instrument specialist

Symptoms That Are Associated With Hearing Loss

Hearing loss can happen gradually, but it can also occur all of a sudden. It could be caused by a side effect of a certain medication you have started to take, through an injury, from being exposed to loud noise, or even just a common cold or an earache. Most commonly, it happens gradually, or from birth.

One of the most common symptoms of hearing loss is the inability to recognize and hear the higher-pitched tones like a female voice, ot the higher pitches that are in speech such as the letters H, S, F, and TH. You may find that words such as frost, and feather suddenly become more difficult for you to hear properly.

You may also notice that some of the sounds of nature have disappeared. You may not be able to hear raindrops or the sounds of birds singing, if you notice this, it could be another sign that you have some hearing loss.

How It Affects Your Relationships

Often the symptoms of hearing loss are misunderstood by your loved ones and co-workers. When you stop immediately responding to what they are saying, they may misinterpret it for being rude or not paying attention, or think that you are interested in what they have to say.

Sometimes social events can be less enjoyable when you have hearing loss, this is because it can be difficult to hear everything that is going on when there is a lot of background noise. It can be a little frustrating if everyone is in bounds of laughter, but you have missed the punch line because you couldn’t hear properly.

Consulting A Hearing Professional

When it comes to hearing loss, taking action sooner rather than later is important. Over time your brain can start to forget how to hear certain sounds, so getting some help early on means you are giving yourself the best chance of helping the loss. Seeing a hearing specialist means that you can help prevent some of the issues above, often wearing hearing aids can make a massive difference to contracting some of the symptoms.

If you notice any signs of hearing loss make sure you book to see a hearing specialist sooner rather than later.
