(Akiit.comHuman resources departments are often one of the smallest within a business. But, in most cases, they’re still doing loads of work. From paying staff to recruiting new ones; the job of an HR representative is never ending. Thankfully, the dawn of computers has had a great impact on the work that HR does. New software has been created which makes their job much easier. And, with computers everywhere, their job doesn’t have to stay in the office. To give you an idea of how big this change is, this post will be going through some of the areas of HR that are slowly being put into the hands of computers.

It’s important for a business to be able to keep a record of when their staff are going to be in. And, of course, they need to know when their staff are going to be off, too. In the past, all of this information would be kept in the form of paper diaries. This method can be risky, though. When you have things on paper, they can be very easy to lose. And, if this information gets lost, it can be chaos. So, it makes sense that this sort of job has moved onto computers. Most modern companies will use online planners, that their staff can access from home. This gives staff the ability to check when they’re working; even when they’re not at work. It also allows for online holiday booking and sickness submissions. Centralising data like this is a great way to make sure that everyone has the same copy.

When a business has staff members, they have to pay them. If they fail to pay their staff correctly or at all, it can cause some major issues. It’s incredibly important for a company to be on top of their payments. For this reason, most of this work is left to accounting software, like Quickbooks. This sort of software can track all aspects of a business’ finances. Along with this, using Quickbooks checks software, you can even print paper checks for staff that prefer to be paid this way. This sort of technology enables a lot of businesses to shrink their HR departments. And, it ensures that the work staff are doing is always accurate.

HR are usually lumped with the task of hiring new staff members. In the past, this would be done using adverts in newspapers and publications. But, nowadays, most people don’t even look at newspapers; let alone buy them. People have moved to more modern means of finding this sort of information. Now, most people find their jobs online. And, HR have to be prepared for this. To achieve their goals, most companies will use a recruitment website to find their staff. These sorts of sites allow job hunters to submit their resumes to companies in seconds. This is an easy way for companies to get loads of applications to their jobs.

Hopefully, this will give you a good idea of what goes into modern HR. This field can be a complex one. The work that is done is incredibly varied; so, most people struggle to keep up. If you want to get into this field, or are already in it, you need to do some research to find ways to make the job as easy as possible.
