(Akiit.comSelf-pity can harm your health. This is apparent for anyone who has experienced this before, but sometimes we can fall into this even with the best intentions. Let’s face it, life isn’t fair. There are many things that can happen to us or a family member seemingly out of nowhere. There are many days where you need to sacrifice short-term pleasure for long-term security. Things can come crumbling down at any moment, and of course, injustice still exists in the world. In the pursuit of an honest and fair society, the first step is to strengthen ourselves. When lost in self-pity, we can often find that an impossible task.

This is why it must be avoided like the plague. Even the most difficult circumstances do not warrant it. There are many reasons as to why this is the case. Reading this, you may feel as though this is an unfair assessment. Of course, people who self-pity are not bad people, it’s a natural tendency. However, the moment you catch yourself getting lost in it, you need to snap out of it immediately.

To explore why:

It Prevents You From Taking Action

Self-pitying takes everything and gives nothing. It gives you every reason to lay back and simply rest in your situation, and not take an authoritative action for change. It also prevents you from feeling worthy of the remedy. Conversely, refusing to pity yourself gives you a feeling of self-ownership. It immediately tells you that you are worthy, that you can rise above the situation. It allows you to become the better person. It might be the hardest thing in the world to do, but it’s worth it ten times over in reward. Taking action is needed in life, and so ensuring you have the emotional capacity to do so could be set up with this initial choice.

It Makes You The Victim

You may be a victim of a real issue. Of course, everyone is a victim. Everyone is mortal. Everyone must pay taxes. Everyone’s life is temporary. However, the willingness to never call ourselves a victim allows us to take action. It allows us to defend ourselves with everything we have, whether that’s protecting ourselves in a difficult relationship, seeking accident compensation with the help of a professional injury lawyer, or having the strength to cut negative people out of your life. When you refuse to be the victim, you accept all the opportunities of change available to you. That’s a very empowering thing to do for yourself, and you’ll feel the effects almost immediately.

It’s A Bottomless Pit

Self-pitying has no end. While self-improvement and care is a mountain to climb, each tier has solid ground for you to rest on. Sliding into the pity pit will only give us cause to slide further down. There will always be something to make you feel unhappy if you let it. There will always be a situation in the world to depress you. However, the ability and willingness to live your best life is a choice, and it all depends on where you orient your ideals. The simple act of choosing to be your own hero could be the most profound choice you make here.

With this in mind, you can be sure to have a much healthier attitude towards yourself, especially when experiencing difficulty. Good luck!
